Now in it 3rd Year, Holi Rave Festival returns for its 2017 Colour –Powder Showdown!
Marking spring’s arrival, Birmingham gets ready to host it most colourful festival yet! Bringing a burst of rainbow colour into the air, Shaanti in partnership with Taste and Liquor presents The Holi Rave Festival.
Claim your heritage on the streets of Digbeth, eat tasty street food and rejoice in the official celebration of friendship and love by joining this year’s Holi Rave Festival on Saturday 15th April, for a party like no other!
With an open policy to unite all communities as one, No 21 Digbeth will become home to this year’s epic event. The festival will run from 2pm-10pm, in two unique rocking zones with a spectacular program of arts, game shows and diverse cutting edge music: this festival is a place to go, where friends and strangers chase each other with laughter and coloured powder playing.
Produced by the Multi Award Winning Shaanti, in partnership with Taste and Liquor, the Holi Rave Festival is also known as the festival of colours. Holi is traditionally celebrated on the full moon day in the month of Phalgun (March) and festivities spread across the globe. However this being a tradition day, mainly spend with family, the oragnisers have decided to push the celebration back, so all can attend. The festival signifies the Hindu victory of good over evil, the arrival of spring, end of winter, and for many, a festive day to meet others, play and laugh, forget and forgive, and repair broken relationships, and is also celebrated as a thanksgiving for a good harvest in the Punjabi community.
This year families are invited with their little ones to attend a daytime show from 2pm – 6pm, then from 6pm – 11.00pm the arches will be transformed into a festival rave and the sound-system will be turned up in full effect, taking the party to the next level.
This year’s plans will feature plenty of Colour Powder Explosions, Top DJ’s, bonkers games-shows like Bhangra Bingo and Play Your Uncle Ji’s Cards Right, banging Dhol Drummers, as well as 80s Retro Films Screenings, Daytime Fun for Family and Kids, Digital Street Art Exhibitions, Face-Painting, Glitter-Bombs, Dance Competition’s and much, much more.
Sharnita K Athwal from Shaanti, Artistic Director of Holi Rave says: “Holi Rave Festival is fun and exciting day out for all generations of the community. Now in its third year, the expectation remains large and Holi Rave Festival aims to conquer an even larger audience. It’s also important for us to give the next generation a festival to celebrate their roots and culture; to produce a platform which enables all communities to celebrate universal traditions in a contemporary, cutting edge, dynamic and engaging way.”
Food is another part of the festival, so they have brought in the Birmingham’s hottest street-food event -producers Taste and Liquor, to create a delicious street-food zone. Manga Singh from Taste and Liquor explains more: “ We’re extremely delighted to be part of this year’s Holi Rave Festival, our street food traders who present great food from around the world will entice guests to step into unknown food territory and voyage on a culinary journey of discovery.”
Taste and Liquor will incorporate globally inspired flavors into dishes offering both Indian and international flavor fusions to the festival line-up!
Combining their love for arts, modern culture, music and cultural traditions celebrating heritage for the community, the Holi Rave Festival gives the region a great opportunity to celebrate a long-lived festivity, bringing in the brightness to the diverse residents of West Midlands and beyond.
